Essential Oils have been use throughout the ages for healing, religious ceremonies, as beauty aids and in perfumes.  In India and Egypt essential oils have been in use for over 5,000 years.  In the bible  references of essential oils and aromatics used for healing are made and the ancient Greeks used them for medicines.  Essential oils were used for beauty by the ancient romans and during the plagues of Europe they were used as antiseptics.

Essential oils are aromatic compounds and volatile liquids that are extracted from trees, flowers, roots, bulbs, seeds and shrubs.  They are composed of hundreds of chemical constituents.  Because of this they can have many different effects on the body.  Essential oils may have one or a combination of properties such as anti-viral, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, sedative, diuretic, immunostimulant, expectorant and more. Essential oils have the ability to penetrate the cell membrane and disperse throughout the blood and tissues.
